TEXT ENGLISH
This drawings series «State of possible», comes from a photographic project I never could realise because censored by the « State » where I needed to carry out it. My project was to make a photographic series in the territory of Abkhazia, taking to object unfinished sanatoriums, « stations » of the Soviet era scattered on the Black Sea coast.
During a civil war in 1992-1993, Abkhazia seceded from the Georgia state at which it was attached. This small land piece situated midway between Europe and Asia, is a selfproclaimed
state, not recognized, inside another state. « Non-place », « no man’s land », it’s a « State » that doesn’t exist but which is nevertheless there : a suspended entity in an « uncertainty state », an « indeterminacy state ».
And it is precisely this conjunction of reality « undetermined » of these sanatoriums and this « State », that interested me. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Abkhazia expressly forbidden me, refusing to give me more details and no possible reversal of their decision, to realize this photographic project in their territory
under penalty having problems with local authorities.
So I decided to incorporate this censorship to my work realizing at drawing, these strange and unfinished buildings with monumental forms specific to brutalism, stigmas
of our recent history, but that I could never capture.
